Gerry Daniel  > 2008 - An image a day > 2008 Daily Photo Community
The photographs in this gallery originally appeared in separate monthly galleries for 2008. The photographs were part of a year-long project to take a photograph a day and post it to a monthly gallery.

The photographs featured here are a subset of the original monthly galleries for 2008. They are sorted in reverse, by date which means the oldest photographs are at the end.

Gerry Daniel > October is here, so autumn is underway. It seemed appropriate (you may say trite, mundane) to start the month with pumpkins. The ones in today's photo are all small ones in an old wheelbarrow at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Not all pumpkins are orange or solid colored. So this is for the folks that look for a little variety, something different, the risk takers out there. You know who you are.

Thanks very much for the feedback on the cash register photo from yesterday. I will be shooting more at that location in the future.

Today's song is by Bon Iver, titled "Blindsided" from the "For Emma, Forever Ago" album.
Gerry Daniel > On the way home, I stopped at "On A Shoestring" antique store. It is the kind of place that has built its own unique charm over the years. Before today, I had never photographed inside. The shop is on my way home from work, so I drive by the place at least 10 times every week (assuming I work a five day week). The owner was gracious and receptive to letting me wander about with my camera. The next time I go, I will take my tripod inside with me. I was trying to be less invasive today so my shots were hand held and the results were mixed. The lighting is very low in many places and I honestly don't care for flash photography as a general rule. With the tripod, I will be able to take the shots I want with the longer exposures and not have to worry about keeping the camera steady.

Today's shot is of the cash register. The shop exudes warmth from a place long gone. It is somewhat like time travel to walk around in the house (the shop is in an old house).

Tonight's song is by Fink (UK), titled "So Long" from the "Biscuits for Breakfast" album.
Gerry Daniel > Sometimes choosing the photo for the day is tough. Not that it is the kind of thing that has a right or a wrong choice. There was just something I liked about this shot.

Today's song is by Citizen Cope, the title is "Appetite (For Lightin' Dynamite)" from the Citizen Cope album.

Gerry Daniel > Up too late, not getting where I want to be with the photos tonight. Sometimes you have to walk away and go again tomorrow. I am tired.

Gerry Daniel > More orchids? Yep, more orchids and still more to go through. It might take me a few more days to get through all of them. Tonight is not a night for the photography purists with my images. I played it straight the past two nights but tonight, all bets were off. I experimented with several different looks. It was fun and I think that is part of this little project.

Instead of a song, tonight is an album by Paper Route. Give it a listen, "Are We All Forgotten - EP" is the title.
