DigitalGrin > Gerry Daniel  > Photography > Waterscapes

The images in this gallery are waterscape photographs. Exposure, shutterspeed, aperture, and ISO all contribute to giving each one a unique appearance. These photographs are watercolors created by nature.

autumn reflected in the lake, full frame, as shot, no cropping, no special effects
Gerry Daniel > autumn waterscape in the lake

a waterscape photograph, full frame, as shot, no effects, image rotated 180 degrees for orientation (meaning sky on the top and ground on the bottom of the image)
Gerry Daniel > woods in autumn, upside

The vast majority of my reflection shots are by nature upside down. Something about shooting them that way makes them look strange if they are flipped vertically to give the proper orientation. This is a reflection photograph, taken on the surface of a lake, it has not been modified by any effects and is slightly cropped but I have flipped it vertically to orient the sky and ground properly.

I'd be curious to hear some thoughts on why reflected photographs will often look wrong when flipped this way. Maybe I'm the only one that feels that way about them with this one being an exception to my normal perception.

Lately I feel like a number of my images are closer in appearance to paintings than they are to photographs. I understand that with software, any photograph can be rendered to look like a painting but these are not altered. The photographs are presented as shot with the camera settings for each one creating the look of a painting.

since categorizing the photo i submitted to the daily photo gallery yesterday as a colorscape, technically this one is a colorscape but I would put it in a sub category of waterscape photographs but since they are labels and not rigidly defined I guess it could be called a lot of things
